Get ready for a night of Irish charm, toe-tapping music, and joyful laughter at An Irish Hooley, a lively celebration of Irish culture that promises fun for all ages. This spirited evening will be filled with traditional music, high-energy dance, and the warm sense of community Ireland is famous for. Bring your friends and join us for a mighty craic that’s sure to leave you smiling!
NEW THIS YEAR: Contra Dance (6:00-7:00 PM)!
Making its debut at An Irish Hooley, contra dance blends elements of square dancing and line dancing, featuring a caller and repeating patterns that bring everyone onto the floor together. With roots in Ireland, Scotland, and Appalachia, contra dancing grew from countryside gatherings where music and movement brought communities together. The evening will be guided by veteran dance leader and caller Bruce Young, who will lead dancers of all experience levels through fun, friendly, and easy-to-follow steps.
“The Irish Hooley is all about bringing people together through music, movement, and shared joy,” said Jody Ocker, Executive Director of SRI. “Adding contra dancing this year deepens that sense of community and invites everyone – dancers and non-dancers alike – to be part of the experience.”
Entertainment Lineup Includes:
• Celtic Wood and Wires (7:30-9:30 PM) – A dynamic ensemble performing traditional tunes and songs from Ireland, Scotland, and Appalachia.
• Tir Na Nog Irish Dancers – High-energy performances of traditional Irish step dancing throughout the evening that may even inspire you to learn a step or two yourself.
